Made from 100% natural fibre from the Cocos Nucifera, our coir mats are both highly robust and environmentally-friendly. The tissues which surround the seed of the coconut palm are woven into mats to create a tough yet versatile floor-covering, ideal for covered entrance areas and indoor matwells. Hard wearing and very strong, the mature brown coir fibres contain more lignin and less cellulose than other traditionally-used fibres such as flax and cotton, ensuring that coir mats are extremely durable, wear-resistant and therefore highly cost-effective.

Natural coir fibre is comparatively waterproof, meaning that it doesn’t easily rot, and in addition it is the only natural fibre which is resistant to salt water damage. This means that a coconut mat would provide the perfect solution for use in coastal areas where sea water may be tracked into your premises.

Mat Creations employ a comprehensive manufacturing process for our coir mats, which means that the dense coconut fibres are cut down and laminated onto a PVC backing. This creates a stable and sturdy base which also facilitates accurate, straight-edged cutting. This means that we can easily supply you with the dimensions that you require.

Coconut mats are eminently suitable not only for use in indoor matwells and entrance areas but are also resilient enough for outdoor use, although we should point out that direct sunlight can affect the colour of your coir mat over time.

Easily maintained, our coir matting can be vacuumed or simply shaken out. As the coconut fibres are strong and long lasting, this means that the mats do not need to be replaced often. However, our coconut matting is so reasonably-priced that when the time comes, it won’t cost you the earth.

Our coloured coir mats are available with a depth of 17mm or in its natural colour in depths of 17mm. All our coconut matting is manufactured in rolls of 1 metre and 2 metres wide.

As older matwells generally have greater depth than the existing coir products, we recommend a simple solution in that you raise the depth of the well, in order to accommodate our products. This is easily achieved by adding a marine ply or ‘rubber crumb’ tile. Rubber crumb tile is an innovative product, created by recycling and shredding car tyres. Not only does this enable you to raise your matwell depth, but it also promotes airflow for tracked-in water to evaporate, due to the water-resistant qualities of the rubber. This simple addition ensures that we can supply coir mats to suit any depth of matwell. It even adds extra spring underfoot!

Whatever your requirements, Mat Creations can supply your affordable coconut matting by the roll, or cut into made-to-measure dimensions. As matwells are rarely perfectly symmetrical, we advise that you take this into consideration when placing your order and overestimate your specific dimensions so that your mat can be cut to the exact dimensions required. This will ensure an excellent fit in any matwell that is less than perfectly parallel.
